This is my first of many blogs to come . I’ve spent alot of time creating this website with the coaching of a web designer . I’d say that my life in the world of creations has led me to this exciting change where I can display what I make or restore onto the web . I’ve been designing and making items since I was a kid , making my own model boats and airplanes without a kit , moving on to surfboards and mosaics . I wish that I had photos of those but during those days I didn’t have a camera , but I can still see them in my memory . I went through a motorcycle accident that left me going through physical therapy where part of the therapy was tooling acorns and mushrooms into leather and dyeing them but I couldn’t stand that result and that led me to experimenting with my own style in the late Sixties . I had the basics and friends had me making belts and purses for them , so much so that I never went back to my regular job and became a traveling leather craftsman , ….. a leap forward !! I’ve always been a quick learner , so things moved fast and at that period of time a revival of American craftsmen/craftswomen was taking place and I was recognized as a quality leather-smith.
I supported myself and my son ,( I was now a single / father ) on my store income and was thrilled with my self reliance enougth that grew to the point where I left Pasadena and headed toward clean air in the Sierras, first landing in Mammoth Lakes , Downieville , and eventually Nevada City where I opened another leather shop for five years . My heart was into restoration of antiques which became my identity , eventually leading to a career of restoration of Victorian and Gold Country era homes . I sold the shop and didn’t look back until now , separating myself from Home restoration and retiring back to the life of an American Craftsman . Since then it has all been magic !
